Top and Tailing of Flanging Machine in Confined Space
The project involved the use of a specialized gantry system to top and tail a flanging machine within a confined warehouse space, ensuring the machine was aligned and installed correctly on the foundation.

Progress: 100%
PROJECT SCOPE
The whole operation had to be carried out inside a warehouse with a headroom of 12.9m. The lifting equipment had to be assembled 7m away from the installation location (foundation).
CHALLENGES FACED
The confined space and headroom limitations within the warehouse made it challenging to use traditional cranes. The solution required precise planning and the use of a specialized gantry system to complete the task within the given constraints.
SOLUTION PROVIDED
After a site inspection, crane options were ruled out, so an SBL900 gantry system with a maximum capacity of 900T (225.0t cap/ram) and a reach of up to 11.3m was used to execute the job. The flanging machine was initially rotated 90 degrees using a turntable. Top and tailing of the machine was completed using the gantry system. The gantry, along with the flanging machine, was moved near the foundation. As per the client’s requirements, the machine was aligned and installed over the foundation.
